Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was one of the stars of the college football season, as his performances often led the Sun Devils to victory last year. Skattebo helped Arizona State win the Big 12 in its debut season, and he nearly led them to an upset over Texas in this year's Peach Bowl.
Skattebo's great season has him in line to be selected in next month's NFL Draft, but he has another situation to deal with involving a former teammate.
The running back is being sued by his former Arizona State teammate Mattheos Katergaris.
Katergaris alleges that Skattebo jumped on the back of a golf cart that he was sitting on, and that he was injured after the golf cart broke.
Neil Udulutch, Katergaris' attorney, says that a judge allowed Skattebo to be served with the lawsuit in a local newspaper after repeated attempts to find the running back in person.
"He's been hard to pin down," Udulutch told the Arizona Republic.
“I have reason to believe he was in Florida preparing for the combine and then I know he was in Indy. I don’t know if he even lives in Arizona anymore. Maybe he’s bouncing around hotels. I just don’t know, so I was done chasing him.
My hope is that he or his family will retain an attorney and help us out here, but otherwise we’ll have to go that route. It’s kind of an archaic procedure. It is definitely a last resort.”
In the lawsuit, Katergaris says that he suffered a ruptured triceps tendon. The incident allegedly took place in July of 2023, and Katergaris says he still has yet to recover from the injury.
He initially sued Arizona State, but added Skattebo to the lawsuit after Udulutch says "we became aware that it was actually him that was on the back of the golf cart, jumping up and down, according to my client.”
Skattebo finished fifth in Heisman voting this season as Arizona State went to the College Football Playoff for the first time. We'll see where he ends up in the NFL Draft in Green Bay next month, and we'll find out what happens as a result of Katergaris' lawsuit.
