Arizona State starting QB Jayden Daniels reportedly enters transfer portal

Jayden Daniels started three seasons for the Arizona State Sun Devils, but he isn't planning on sticking around for a senior season in 2022. According to 247Sports, Daniels entered the transfer portal Thursday and has been gauging his options with other schools for weeks.

Daniels became the first true freshman in ASU history to start at quarterback in the first game of the season in 2019 and finished his first season as an honorable mention for the Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. In three seasons, Daniels has thrown 32 touchdowns with 13 interceptions and rushed for another 13 touchdowns.

While there was speculation that he'd enter the 2022 NFL Draft, Daniels announced in December that he'd be back for another year at ASU. The decision led to the Sun Devils to opt against pursuing former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler, who was reportedly interested in the school and landed with the South Carolina Gamecocks instead.

Shortly after the news broke of Daniels entering the transfer portal, a video made rounds on social media that showed ASU players clearing his locker out with a voice saying he "sucked anyway." Be aware there is some salty language used in the video.

In January, four ASU coaches — including offensive coordinator Zak Hill — were let go by the program after an investigation into recruiting violations. Then in February, defensive coordinator Antonio Pierce resigned after he was also implicated in the investigation.
