The Deion Sanders era at Colorado hasn’t been all fun and games, but it’s all been on an upward trajectory.
And then came last week’s 53-7 loss at Utah with, arguably, the worst first half by any Power Four team this season.
At 3-5, a bowl game is a tough haul with two of the last three games on the road. That can change with a win over Arizona.
The Wildcats are trying to find their way, losing three of the last four and in danger now of not going to a bowl. With Kansas, at Cincinnati, Baylor, and Arizona State to close, there’s still time to get to six wins, but winning in Boulder would make things far easier.

Colorado doesn’t do anything against the run.
There’s no pass rush, too many runs are allowed to the second level, and Arizona has to do everything possible to keep on grinding until the Buffaloes can prove they can stop it.
How bad is it?
It gave up 200 yards or more five times, and was run over by Utah for 422 yards, and the Utes took their foot off the gas.
Arizona doesn’t have a great ground game, but it won three of the four times it ran for 150 yards or more, took BYU to overtime in the lone loss in the group, and it has to commit to the ground attack from the start.
The Buffaloes are far, far better than they showed in Salt Lake City.
Bad night, couldn’t hit the opposing pitcher, and it got ugly. This should be a different Colorado team with far more energy and sharper production on both sides.
The Wildcats aren’t anything great moving the ball, and they haven’t done much so far in their two road games. Colorado has to make them push the offense a little more than they might like. That starts by simply completing passes.
BYU was an outlier loss for both teams. The Buffaloes won the other three times when completing more than 60% of their throws, Arizona lost the two times they allowed quarterbacks to hit more than 60%, and …
Again, this will be a different Colorado team.
There will be more energy, the offense will get going right away, and the defense will do plenty of bending without a ton of breaking. It won’t be perfect, but after last week, Coach Prime will take the performance and the W.
