Arkansas Razorbacks Lose 1st Team All-SEC Running Back To The Transfer Portal
Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports

The Arkansas Razorbacks had high hopes for 2023. KJ Jefferson was a fringe preseason Heisman candidate and the hope was that they could try and pull off some upsets in the SEC. That did not happen. The team went 4-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference meaning some players may be looking for greener pastures. Running back Raheim Sanders announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Arkansas Razorbacks RB Raheim Sanders Enters Transfer Portal

Sanders was 1st Team All-SEC back in 2022 when he ran for 1,443 yards and had 14 total touchdowns. A knee injury in 2023 limited him to six games and even in the games he played, he wasn’t the same. His nickname is “Rocket” for a reason. He sent this statement to On3.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game I love. I’ve been blessed beyond measure with all the opportunities I’ve been afforded. To the entire Razorback staff, my teammates, and all of Razorback Nation thanks for supporting me throughout my collegiate career. Thank you to the Razorback educational support staff for your support with helping me be on track to graduate in the Spring of 2024 within three years of my initial enrolling.

Coach Smith thank you for your support, guidance and advice through everything. You are more than a coach to me and I appreciate you. Lastly, I want to thank my family for supporting me through it all. With your unconditional love,  I’ve grown and strived to carry myself with honor that you would be proud of daily.

It has been one of the most special distinctions in representing the State of Arkansas and the Razorbacks for the last three years. After much prayer and reflection, it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in my life. In order for me to reach further goals, it’s best for me to enter my name in the transfer portal with one year of remaining eligibility.”

Instantly A Top Running Back In The Portal

This is an offensive weapon that programs should be lining up for. While he had a down season in 2023, it was because of injury. He will have the entire offseason to get healthy for his last year of eligibility. We’ve seen what a dynamic running back can do to an offense and Sanders has the ability to pick up huge chunks of yards. Lost in the 2022 season stats is the fact that he averaged 6.5 yards per carry. That is the type of production that will make offensive coaches salivate.

Where will Raheim Sanders end up? This will be a name to watch in the portal moving forward.
