Ashton Jeanty given advice by former NFL MVP

For the league’s worst rushing attack last season, the Las Vegas Raiders hope drafting Ashton Jeanty sixth overall is a cure-all to their woes on the ground.

Running for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns at Boise State last year en route to finishing as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, Jeanty quickly grabbed headlines all across the nation. All of this came despite having a unique stance, where Jeanty stood up straight in the backfield. After being drafted, Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly got to work, helping adjust to make sure Jeanty does not stand out in the backfield, literally.

A former NFL MVP took notice of the adjustments, and offered his opinion.

One of the best running backs of this century praised Jeanty for his willingness to learn and take advice.

On the Up & Adams Show, former Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander spoke on why Jeanty deserves praise for being open to adjusting his stance.

“You know what, you want to take every tip and every advantage as a running back,” Alexander said. “I think bending would probably be a little bit better because he can hide behind people a little bit better. Sometimes, when you’re standing tall, the defensive people can see what you’re doing.”

When it comes to advice on how to stay productive in the league, very few know more about the running back position than Alexander.

With the Seahawks, Alexander enjoyed a run of five consecutive seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards. This culminated in a tremendous MVP campaign in 2005, when he ran for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns. Clearly, Alexander sees similar potential in Jeanty, and his willingness to adjust to the professional game is just the first quality that will help the rookie out.

The fact that Jeanty is already heeding the advice being given to him is a positive sign for his future in the league, as well as the Raiders’ long-term outlook.
