Auburn appears to adjust policy that will make it easier to fire Bryan Harsin

Auburn seems intent on trying to fire Bryan Harsin for cause. The school is investigating the football program and even appears to have created or modified a new school policy this week to aid its apparent efforts to push out the coach.

Harsin, 45, has been on a trip in Mexico while Auburn has investigated the program. The school has a policy stated “Employee Duty to Cooperate Policy” listed in its online policy database. People on Twitter noticed that not only does Auburn have this policy, but that the document was listed as having been modified on Tuesday.

This. Is. Crazy.

The Tigers went 6-7 last season, which was the first under Harsin. They have seen numerous players enter the transfer portal this offseason. Both the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator recently left.

Elevated transfer numbers are much more common in the era of the transfer portal, and they are also to be expected when a program is transitioning to a new head coach, as Auburn is. It’s unclear whether the new coordinators left on their own, due to Harsin or because they knew the future was clouded by an imminent investigation.

Whatever the case, the way Auburn is working so hard to try to fire Harsin will result in that job coming with great caution for future candidates.
