We all wanted to know what the Ron Roberts-led defense would look like and we thought we may need to wait a few weeks until we saw what it would be capable of.

Of course, Auburn will use more schemes and blitzes against upcoming foes like Cal and Texas A&M but we got a nice taste of it against UMass. We saw several defensive backs involved in creating pressure in the backfield.

The defensive back who stole the show was Donovon Kaufman. According to PFF, Kaufman rushed the passer just five times but on four of those plays, he impacted the quarterback. In his five snaps where he rushed the passer, he recorded a sack, a quarterback hit, and two hurries according to PFF.

What's happening today

Hugh Freeze will conduct his weekly Monday press conference at 11 today. Some individual players will be made available to the media today as well.

Auburn Daily's Andrew Stefaniak highlighted five winners against UMass. The first one listed was Eugene Asante. Here's what Stefaniak wrote about the linebacker.

Eugene Asante led the Tigers in tackles against UMass, totaling six. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack. Asante has gotten into great shape over the past few months and is ready to have a big season for Auburn. After everything he went through last season, it's really good to see this young man succeed on the field.
