Jaylen Scott is one of the top 2027 recruits from the state of Alabama, as well as one of the top safety recruits in his class.
It was a big loss for Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers when he committed to Florida State at a junior day this past January. Losing in-state talent always hurts. Watching an in-state star go off the board so early in the recruiting cycle almost feels like a gut punch, though.
Credit to Freeze and the Tigers, though, because they never gave up on Scott. In fact, they ratcheted up the pressure on FSU and made the four-star safety from Mobile, Alabama, feel like a priority.
He's now flipped his commitment from FSU to Auburn, and it seems like the Tigers are in a great position with him moving forward.
“Just everything to be honest,” Scott told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, speaking about why he flipped from Florida State to the Tigers. “Auburn has been treating me like a priority since before I got the offer. Plus the best in the state stays in the state!”
That's a pitch that obviously worked on Scott. Now, all Freeze and the Tigers need to do is keep making him feel like a priority, because Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide could always come calling and make the same pitch as well.
At this point, Alabama hasn't offered, but Scott does boast offers from the likes of Arkansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee and others, so he's already a pretty notable recruit.
According to 247Sports, Scott is ranked as the No. 9 safety in the 2027 class as well as the No. 5 recruit from the state of Alabama.
