It's the biggest and best matchup on a fun Friday night of games.
Auburn needs this. After a disappointing 5-7 season and four straight losing campaigns, this is a big chance to make an early statement. Win this, and Ball State and South Alabama to follow, it'll almost certainly be 3-0 before starting the SEC season.
Lose, and with trips to Oklahoma and Texas A&M, followed by dates against Georgia and Missouri, it's uh-oh time.
This is Baylor's shot to announce itself to a national audience.
It closed last season strong, but with a 90-minute trip up the road to SMU to follow, and with the Big 12 opener against Arizona State looming, it could be a rough start with a loss.
Auburn vs Baylor: How To Watch
Date: Friday, August 29, 2025
Game Time: 8:00 PM ET
TV: FOX
Location: McLane Stadium, Waco, TX
Baylor has plenty of experienced talent, but Auburn has more star power.
Hugh Freeze has the guys.
Jackson Arnold was a terrific quarterback recruit for Oklahoma, but he didn't have a ton of luck - his receivers got hurt last year - and didn't play up to the hype. The talent is there, though, the line should go from meh to solid, and the receiving corps is fantastc.
Add in a potential killer of a defensive front, and the Tigers have deep sleeper upside, but ...
An already good situation for Baylor's defense got a whole lot better.
The transfer portal loaded up Dave Aranda's linebacking corps, brought in new options for the defensive front, and that's added on to an already great-looking secondary.
This is a very, very fast Baylor team on both sides of the ball, with the wheels to get plenty of home runs coming from quarterback Sawyer Robinson and a terrific receiving corps.
The firepower is there to keep up in a likely shootout.
Both teams have solid defenses, but they'll be missing for long stretches.
The passing games will be great, both quarterbacks will be on, and the atmosphere will be as good as any in the first big weekend of the season.
The Bears might not have the Auburn starting 22, but few teams have more returning experience. At home, the Big 12 team will maintain its composure and get the win in the first meeting between these two since 1976 - a 15-14 Baylor win.
