Auburn's Bryan Harsin 'not anti-vaccine,' doesn't confirm he's vaccinated against COVID-19

Auburn Tigers head football coach Bryan Harsin and defensive coordinator Derek Mason have both recently encountered COVID-19 cases. While Mason announced Tuesday he is recovered from a breakthrough bout with the virus, there's been a perception shared by some that Harsin may be against getting one of the available and safe vaccines.

According to Alex Scarborough of ESPN, Harsin somewhat elaborated on his feelings while speaking with reporters Wednesday as he remains isolated after testing positive for the virus last week.

"Let me be clear. I am not anti-vaccine, and any narrative along those lines is misinformed," Harsin said without directly confirming or denying that he's been vaccinated.

Auburn has not yet reached the 85% vaccination threshold that allows for less COVID-19 testing of personnel. Harsin, meanwhile, hasn't experienced any symptoms since testing positive and is on track to return to team activities this coming Monday ahead of the regular-season opener against the Akron Zips on Sept. 4.

"I fully support the choice for anyone to vaccinate, and I also support getting reliable data-driven information into the hands of those who still have questions about the vaccine," Harsin added about providing players with facts on the shots. "Anyone who has been in our facility knows that."

Assistant head coach, linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator Jeff Schmedding will continue to serve as interim head coach until Harsin is cleared to return.
