The Wisconsin Badgers have remained very close with a 2027 recruit who currently considers the program to be the leader in his recruitment.
Ziere Alston, a 2027 cornerback from Dayton, Ohio, attends Centerville High School and has drawn early interest from a handful of notable programs. Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse have all been in contact with Alston but have not extended scholarship offers yet. Wisconsin, however, is the first power offer as Temple and Toledo are the two other offers the cornerback currently holds.
Alston was previously on campus during the game against Maryland and drew closer to the program during the visit despite not having the best performance displayed on the field. The cornerback is currently one of the primary targets Wisconsin is seeking to lockdown early before other programs begin to extend offers. The Badgers’ staff believes that Alston could be a great fit within the defense and given his talent, the defender has the potential to be an elite slot cornerback.
With how fast Wisconsin has been moving with Alston, the program hopes that a commitment will be something that could appear sooner rather than later. As mentioned previously, one program interested in Alston has been Cincinnati, who have been pushing lately to build a relationship with the speedy recruit.
Since moving to the Big 12 Conference, Cincinnati has fought to still maintain a recruiting presence within the state of Ohio. Cincinnati notably drew close to Ohio native Wisconsin commitments Arthur Scott and Aden Reeder, but have been unable to persuade either recruit. Cincinnati has 20 commitments in the 2026 class so far with five commitments being in-state players.
On the field, why so many programs including the Wisconsin Badgers are interested in Alston is clear to see. The dynamic cornerback has a playing style built around speed that often forces many offenses to have to adjust and avoid throwing the football near the recruit. Alston combines his incredible speed with great field vision and instincts which make playing against the cornerback difficult.
At 6-foot, 185-pounds, Alston has a solid frame for the position but may struggle at the next level against taller, more physical receivers. Alston can still hold-up physically against the majority of receivers, but might be more suited against smaller, speedier options in coverage. Where Alston truly excels on defense is in rush situations as the physicality of the hybrid cornerback is much greater than the average player.
In certain defensive sets, Alston is used as an additional blitzer and often finds success given his speed and ability to blowup blocking running backs if needed. The defender also has the ability to serve as a box safety given his tackling abilities and willingness to use his body to make a play.
