The Baylor Bears haven't been doing that great since they last won the Sugar Bowl in 2021, where they finished with 12 wins in Dave Aranda's first season. They have had a six-win season and a three-win season following that 21' season.
And then last year, they finished with eight wins. So, maybe they will soon be back on track; it's hard to predict, really, but you can't say that the Bears and their staff aren't fighting to make the necessary changes to get back to a 12-win team.
And, there's proof of that with their win on Friday.
Jordan Clay, a highly coveted four-star wide receiver from the 2026 class at Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas, was a top target for several programs but ultimately chose a school closer to home in the Baylor Bears, who have quietly snuck into the top 30 for their 2026 class. Dave Aranda, the Bears' head coach, is trying to recover this program, and getting a big win like the one he's just got will only help.
So, the Bears just got a huge win for their program. And, he's pretty good.
Standing at 6'3" and weighing 200 pounds, Clay is ranked as the No. 8 wide receiver and No. 85 overall prospect by 247Sports, while Rivals places him as the No. 13 wide receiver and No. 94 nationally.
On July 11, 2025, Clay announced his commitment to Baylor, opting for the Bears over offers from Oklahoma and Colorado. He took official visits to Colorado on June 6, Baylor on June 13, and Oklahoma on June 20. His combination of size, speed, and playmaking prowess also attracted attention from schools like Texas A&M, but Baylor’s proximity and fit sealed his decision over teams like Oklahoma, which, admittedly, is a much better program, and Colorado, which has Deion Sanders as their head coach.
This is a huge win for the Bears.
