Big 12 Presence Light in Kelley Ford’s 2025 Top 25 Rankings

College football analytics guru Kelley Ford released his highly anticipated Preseason Top 25 on Monday.

Among Power Four leagues, the Big 12 earned a modest presence: just two teams, with Kansas State at No. 21 and Arizona State at No. 22, made the cut.

Kansas State earned the league’s top spot at No. 21, a reflection of steady performance under Coach Chris Klieman and a balanced mix of returning experience and emerging stars. The Wildcats rode momentum from a solid 9–4 finish in 2024, powered by a stout defense and a rushing offense that ranked near the top of the league.

Right behind them at No. 22, Arizona State came in strong in their second year as Big 12 members. The Sun Devils shocked critics last year by capturing the conference title and advancing to the CFP quarterfinals. Ford’s ranking reinforces the program’s upward trajectory under coach Kenny Dillingham and a roster poised to build on unexpected success.

Missing from Kelley Ford’s Top 25 were perennial Big 12 challengers like BYU, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Baylor, signaling that Ford sees the league’s depth shaken in the wake of realignment. With coaching stability, roster turnover, and a slate that could be more competitive than ever, these teams have work to do if they want that postseason spotlight.

Ford’s model, which emphasizes predictive analytics and résumé strength, shows both promise and pressure for the Big 12. Kansas State and Arizona State may carry the conference’s flag early, but sustaining momentum through a controversial playoff format and realigned scheduling will be a test.

The preseason rankings are just the first chapter. For the Big 12, a conference once built on consistency, Kelley Ford’s Top 25 is a reminder: margins are thinner and stakes are higher.
