One of the best strength and conditioning coaches in America is leaving the Big 12, as Kansas State has reportedly lost Trumain Carrol to the USC Trojans.

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Carrol will leave after four years in Manhattan to take over the S&C program at Southern Cal, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Lincoln Riley.

Riley and the Trojans recently parted ways with Bennie Wylie, who followed him to USC after serving as the S&C coach at Oklahoma.

Now, as USC’s new “Director of Sports Performance,” Carrol will try to help develop the Trojans’ roster into one capable of competing for Big Ten Championships moving forward.

“Coach Carroll is an accomplished strength and conditioning professional who has consistently trained his teams to compete at the highest level,” USC head coach Lincoln Riley said in a statement. “His ability to develop players with an emphasis on a strong team culture has been evident throughout his career. He will have a tremendous impact on our program. We’re excited to welcome Trumain and his family to USC.”

During his time at Kansas State, the Wildcats had a 37-16 record and won one Big 12 Championship. Prior to his time in Manhattan, Carrol also served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at South Florida, Arkansas, and SMU, giving him a total of 19 years at the FBS level.

With Carrol out, Kansas State has announced the promotion of Ray Thomas to the Director of Strength and Conditioning. He has served on the K-State Football S&C staff for the past four years under Carrol and played a vital role in the development of the Wildcats’ impressive program.

“We are pleased to elevate Ray to lead our strength and conditioning program,” Coach Chris Klieman said. “Our players and coaches have the utmost respect for him, and his style and leadership will fit in seamlessly with our program as we enter the summer training months and into the season.”
