In college football, even when a player commits to a program, it does not mean things are set in stone, as it's seen as more of a verbal agreement, meaning players can easily change their minds.
Seeing a prospect flip their commitment has become common, and for the Penn State Nittany Lions, they've found themselves on the wrong side of that exact situation.
On April 12, they'd received a commitment from quarterback Peyton Falzone out of Nazareth, Pennsylvania. They had hosted him a total of nine times throughout the recruiting process, including an official visit on May 30.
However, on Thursday, Falzone backed out of that original commitment and instead pledged himself to the Auburn Tigers, per 247Sports' Christian Clemente, to play under head coach Hugh Freeze.
SURPRISE!

Top247 QB Peyton Falzone has FLIPPED his commitment from Penn State to Auburn.
"I'm blessed to be able to play at a school with a strong tradition of faith and family running throughout the university and the community."

This will certainly sting for Penn State, as Falzone put up solid numbers last season, completing 97 of 175 passes for 1,424 yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for 420 yards and five touchdowns.
That's put him in a position to be one of the most sought-after quarterback recruits in this year's cycle, as 247Sports places him as a four-star prospect, the No. 11 quarterback and the No. 183 player in the nation.
Luckily for the Nittany Lions and head coach James Franklin, though Falzone was not the only quarterback they'd landed from the Class of 2026, as they also committed four-star Troy Huhn.
On the other hand, he becomes a huge addition for Auburn, who continues to build up a relatively weak recruiting class, having a total of seven commits, ranking No. 16 in the SEC and No. 77 in the nation.
