Big Ten QB Says Penn State S Jaylen Reed Among Best He’s Played Against

The second one Brosmer mentioned was Jaylen Reed, which might come as a bit more of a surprise. To be clear, Reed was one of Penn State’s most important players, proving to be effective both in pass coverage and playing against the run on the second level.

At the same time, whereas Carter is expected to be a first-round pick— maybe the first overall pick— Reed is projected to go between the fourth and seventh rounds.

So what does Minnesota QB Max Brosmer see in Reed that makes him one of the best players he went up against in the Big Ten?

Here’s what Brosmer had to say about Reed during his NFL Combine presser Friday.

“I think at safety, I think the bottom line is that you’re mobile and you can get around the field,” Brosmer said. “That’s the bottom line. You can see in the way he plays, how his eyes move and how he’s able to scan the field pretty effectively and efficiently. As a quarterback playing against a quarterback on defense doing the same thing, it’s a lot of fun.”

“He got some big hits on our offense and we got him a couple of times, too. That’s the fun part of playing.”

THE MOCKS MIGHT BE WRONG

Although the mock drafts project Reed going in the later rounds, the Penn State DB says NFL teams have him going higher.

“I always felt like I was underrated,” he said. “I still feel like I’m underrated. Now, I see all these frickin mock drafts every single day. (They have me) going in the seventh round. But I get grades from NFL teams then I’m second, third, fourth. So I always take that under my belt. I don’t let the media control my headspace.”

This year’s Draft is scheduled for April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
