Bill Belichick’s Contract at North Carolina Revealed

North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick's contract is open for public viewing after the university revealed the details of the deal on Thursday.

Belichick, 72, was hired as Hall of Fame coach Mack Brown's replacement after the Tar Heels finished the season at 6-7 with a bowl loss to UConn. Brown, the winningest coach in program history, led UNC to six-straight bowl appearances in six seasons.

After 24 seasons and six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots, Belichick is preparing for his first season at the helm of a college program. And much has been made about the contract with the Tar Heels.

UNC published the contract on Thursday after rumors of Belichick potentially leaving for the NFL continued. According to the documents, it appears the new head coach signed the deal on Wednesday, agreeing to the terms that were previously reported.

The five-year deal incudes $10 million per year, including base and supplemental salary with another $3.5 million in potential bonuses. Belichick would earn $300,000 for winning the ACC championship and $750,00 for making the College Football Playoff, among other available bonuses.

Belichick's $10 million buyout drops to just $1 million in June, seemingly setting up for an easier transition if he elects to return to the NFL before the contract is completed.

But general manger Michael Lombardi has been outspoken about the commitment of Belichick and his new staff to the task at hand in Chapel Hill.

"Bill Belichick can build his program here and it's the perfect job for him," Lombardi said on "The Pat McAfee Show" last week. ... "I don't understand how people can keep generating a story that has no story to it."
