Bill Belichick has not had the easiest transition to college football after spending the past five decades coaching in the NFL.

He was 2-2 in his first season as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels entering Saturday's game against the Clemson Tigers. But the game quickly got away from the Heels, who trailed 35-3 by halftime.

With the score 28-3 on Saturday, ESPN showed a taped interview with a North Carolina student, who gave a brutally honest answer about Belichick's first game as head coach against TCU.

"TCU was... I went to that game," the unidentified student said about the 48-14 loss in the season opener. "And that was, that was one of the saddest feelings I've had in university so far. I've failed midterms before, so that's saying something."

Belichick's first game got off to a good start, or so North Carolina thought. The Tar Heels moved the ball well on their opening drive and scored a touchdown on an 8-yard run from running back Caleb Hood.

However, TCU scored 41 unanswered points, and North Carolina's next touchdown did not come until late in the third quarter. The Horned Frogs' defense held the Tar Heels to 172 passing yards and 50 rushing yards.

After Saturday's ACC opener against Clemson, there is only one ranked team on North Carolina's remaining schedule, No. 24 Virginia on Oct. 25 at home. But conference road games remain against California (Oct. 17), Syracuse (Oct. 31), Wake Forest (Nov. 15) and N.C. State (Nov. 29).

There is still time for Belichick's team to achieve bowl eligibility, something North Carolina has accomplished each of the past six seasons under Mack Brown.

North Carolina hits the road to face Cal next Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
