The biggest storyline for the Florida Gators has been quarterback DJ Lagway the entire time.
Everything started when he didn't throw at all during spring practice, and there were a lot of concerns raised, not just with this season, but the next couple as well. Shoulder injuries are really difficult to heal, and they can potentially be catastrophic for their long-term health.
We got news that Lagway had begun to throw just after spring practice, and it was great to hear, especially since the injury came from his time in high school back in Texas.
Thanks to head coach Billy Napier, we learned that Lagway isn't just throwing, but doing so regularly.
“He threw today.”

— Billy Napier on D.J. Lagway (knowing he’s throwing the people some red meat)
Napier elaborated and said Lagway is throwing about three times a week and that they’re doing their usual stuff this time of year.
Being able to throw three times per week is tremendous progress from where we were with Lagway just a few weeks ago. Doing so with this kind of consistency is going to be huge when the Gators get to week one when they face Long Island.
The other factor here is relatively simple: he's doing the normal offseason work that the Gators do this time of year. Napier saying that says Lagway's shoulder is in good shape, as he wouldn't be doing that kind of work without being healthy. His focus would be more on rehab.
Even though things are going well for Lagway, it's going to be important to monitor his health throughout the offseason, as setbacks aren't uncommon. If he does enter the 2025 season fully healthy, don't be surprised if the Gators make a real playoff run.
Lagway is ready to make the 2025 season a Heisman Trophy-winning afair.
