A lot of the attention from fans and media this offseason for the Florida Gators has revolved around the health of their star quarterback, DJ Lagway. The sophomore made seven starts in 2024, missing one due to a hamstring injury.

Throughout the summer, Lagway did not throw because of struggles with his throwing shoulder, and the latest injury he sustained was a calf problem that had the former five-star recruit in a walking boot last week.

However, Florida fans loved what they saw over the weekend at the Gators' fall camp, as Lagway threw passes for the first time in 2025 and participated in team drills. On Monday, head coach Billy Napier provided the latest update on Lagway's status.

"Obviously, he had a little bit of a setback with the calf, but I think he's on the right track, and you know he threw in public the other day, and everybody's all excited about that," Napier said. "The guy's been working hard all summer, and certainly, hopefully, he'll be able to do more and more as we go day-to-day."

This update allows the Gator Nation to breathe a sigh of relief. It also echoes the continued confidence from Napier for Lagway ahead of the 2025 season.

The optimism from Napier seems to be warranted for the 6-foot-3, 247-pound quarterback, who showed his capabilities in 2024. Lagway went 6-0 in games he started and finished as a true freshman, tossing for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

"I think it was good for you guys to see him, Napier continued. "I think you guys were probably a little more relieved than everybody else. We've been watching the guy work all summer, you know."

If Lagway can stay healthy, his sophomore campaign brings tons of hope to the Florida faithful.
