A good deal of the Florida Gators' hopes for success this season rest on DJ Lagway's right shoulder. Head coach Billy Napier has provided an update on his star sophomore quarterback that allows fans in Gainesville to rest easy.
Lagway was held back in spring practices and played all of five snaps in the Gators' spring game, all of them handoffs. It seems he's back to slinging passes at this point in the offseason.
"'He threw today.' — Billy Napier on D.J. Lagway (knowing he's throwing the people some red meat)," On3's Andy Staples wrote Tuesday on X. "Napier elaborated and said Lagway is throwing about three times a week and that they're doing their usual stuff this time of year."
As a true freshman, Lagway passed for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. The Associated Press reported late last month that Lagway had resumed throwing and is expected to be fully healed by the time Florida gets together for its workouts next month. Lagway figures to be one of the best signal-callers in college football this coming season.
“I think more people … are going to start seeing that DJ Lagway was not any sort of a fluke last year, and that what he contributed to that team was real,” FOX Sports' RJ Young said in March on "The Number One College Football Show." “As a matter of fact, there’s a great argument for, if he does not get hurt against Georgia, they might go win that football game.
“I 100% believe that DJ Lagway is going to enter into the Heisman conversation.”
