Bob Stoops thinks the Oklahoma Sooners are about to have a win-win situation regarding Jim Knowles

When you can add one of the best defensive minds in the country to your football staff, you do it. That's what the Oklahoma Sooners are attempting to do with Jim Knowles, the Ohio State defensive coordinator. Now, at first, we all thought it was a pipe dream that OU fans and media were just coming up with.

Well, turns out, this is a legit thing -- there's a legit chance this could happen. And you may be asking yourself the same question everyone has already asked, including myself -- Why would Knowles leave Ohio State, where he just won a National Championship, for Oklahoma? And, to be honest with you, the only answer I have is that he has family and ties to the state of Oklahoma. And, maybe the money would be better -- all those details we still don't know yet.

But even then, the Sooners are a big step down from where Ohio State is currently. They just won a National Championship, and at Ohio State, Knowles has complete control over the defense. Ryan Day, Ohio State's head coach, is an offensive-minded head coach. So, Knowles has complete control.

If he were to go to Oklahoma, he would have to share that with Venables, one of the best minds in football on the defensive side we have ever seen. So, why would he do that? No idea, but it's possible. Either way, if he does or doesn't come, Bob Stoops, one of the greatest Sooners coaches of all time, thinks it's a win-win regardless.

“Brent has as positive and good of a reputation as anyone in the county, Jim Knowles or anyone," Stoops said on the REF.

The Sooners landing Knowles would be huge for their program, especially with the current state that it's in. Getting him would also allow Venables to kind of focus more on the actual head coaching aspect of the team and not as much on the defensive side, while also focusing on it, of course.

Without him, Venables will still construct an elite defense. So, yeah, it is a win-win.
