Brandon Dorlus shares what he tells NFL teams they will get from him
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Senior Bowl week in Mobile officially kicks off the NFL Draft season, with some of college football’s best players showing out in front of teams. Practices will occur over three days before the game is played on Saturday afternoon. It’s a great opportunity for players to get their name out there, hoping to improve their draft stock moving forward.

One of those is Oregon defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus, hoping to impress while in Mobile. He spoke with On3’s Andy Staples, wondering what NFL teams will be getting Dorlus if they call his name this upcoming April in Detroit. Dorlus is willing to play anywhere along the front, hoping to be viewed as a selfless person.

“Position versatility,” Dorlus said. “A dude that does everything for them. I’m not a dude that’s going to be selfish. I’ll be selfless and do everything you ask me to. If I play D-end, I play D-end. D-tackle, I’ll play D-tackle. So, I’ll just be a person that can do anything you ask me to.”

The official Oregon roster listed Dorlus as a defensive lineman. He is listed at 6-3, 290 pounds by the Ducks. However, when weighing in at the Senior Bowl, Dorlus came in about 20 pounds lighter although the height was spot on.

The coaches at Oregon have been quite high on Dorlus, with head coach Dan Lanning asking for the super senior to receive some more praise this past fall. Injuries held him back in spring practice but Dorlus put in the effort to make himself a contributor for the Ducks.

“I’ll tell you one guy that I don’t think is getting enough praise is Brandon Dorlus,” Lanning said. “You know what? He didn’t go through the spring. But Brandon’s leadership, his work ethic — those guys follow him. I’ve been really excited to see that. You watch a guy like Brandon Dorlus and what he’s done, this summer, to not stay the same, to improve in a situation where he was a little bit banged up. I’m really excited to see what this fall looks like for him.”

Lanning likely enjoyed what he wound up seeing from Dorlus on the field.

He played in all 14 games with Oregon this season, recording 25 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and 5.0 sacks. Dorlus also finished with seven quarterback hurries on the year and broke up eight passes. Certainly, a key member of a stout Oregon defense throughout 2023.

Exactly where Dorlus gets selected in a few months is not yet known. However, his floor is expected to be on the second day, hoping to hear his name by the end of the night on Friday. It would be a major accomplishment for Dorlus after spending five seasons in Eugene.

Hopefully, his time at the Senior Bowl will only elevate the NFL’s opinion of him. There will always be a roster spot for a solid defensive lineman, no matter the position. As Dorlus said, he is willing to be a defensive end or move a few spaces inside to play tackle.
