Cincinnati transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby has reportedly committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, according to The Athletic.

Sorsby, a native of Denton, Texas, spent late last week in Lubbock to visit Texas Tech and then was scheduled to his way east to LSU in Baton Rouge, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

With one year remaining, Sorsby is the hottest quarterback on the market after throwing for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions this season with the Bearcats. The fifth-year quarterback has thrown for 7,208 career yards and rushed for another 1,305 in four seasons between Cincy and Indiana.

No, Behren Morton didn’t exactly win any points for the Red Raiders, or the Big 12 for that matter, with a 23-0 shutout loss to Oregon in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Thursday, but Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders have found their quarterback for 2026. Morton was out of eligibility anyway, and could not return to Texas Tech.

It’s unclear what this means for Will Hammond, Morton’s back up, who was effective when he played this season, however he suffered a torn ACL in October, meaning he probably was not going to be ready for the start of the 2026 season anyway.

Regardless of how the semifinal loss affects Tech’s reputation, the program still managed a 12-2 record and its first ever Big 12 football Championship.

Sorsby’s first three games with the Red Raiders next season will come against Abilene Christian, Oregon State and Sam Houston State. The Big 12 portion of the schedule will be announced later this year.
