Alabama football has been fairly productive in the red zone this season, converting 92 percent of its trips into points.
The Crimson Tide has made 38 trips to the red zone. They have come up with points on 35 of those trips with 20 passing scores, eight rushing scores and seven field goals.
Oklahoma’s head coach Brent Venables, who is a respected defensive mind, is well aware of the Tide’s ability to score in the red zone.
“They’re very efficient,” Venables said. “They can stay out of the negative plays there. They’ve got a lot of excellent play design concepts when they get down into the red zone, and they understand defense and how defense works. When I watch them, that’s what I see. And so they try to put you in conflict and attack your rules and things of that nature. So, they’re really smart that way, understanding what you do. They run the ball in that area really well. They got good players. But again, at 92 percent conversion rate, that’s really, really high and efficient. So, I think they’re comfortable in that space. It looks like they spent a lot of time there.”
Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has orchestrated some head-turning play designs throughout the 2025 football season. Some of those plays were called when Alabama was inside of its opponents’ 20-yard line. Grubb will likely have to dip into his bag of tricks against the Sooners this weekend.
