Brian Kelly and LSU Tigers pushing to land five star offensive line recruit as his commitment approaches ahead of the season

The LSU Tigers are still holding on to a top ten 2026 recruiting class as of this writing. Five star wide receiver Tristen Keys is still in the fold. Brian Kelly and his staff have 15 high pedigree blue chip commits and counting.

Now LSU finds themselves in the final mix to land a five star offensive line recruit as his commitment date is coming up soon. If the Tigers can land him, that will give them five offensive line recruits in the class as the team continues building towards life after quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Darius Gray, a consensus five star recruit from Richmond, Virginia has quickly risen up the rankings over the last year or so. He was largely overlooked until the spring of 2024, but since then he's racked up over 40 scholarship offers from some of the best programs around the country.

Gray had one of the busiest official visit seasons among all recruits in the nation as he stopped by eight total schools that were recently considered his finalists. However, now he's finally narrowed things down to just five schools and will be committing on August 22nd. LSU will have to beat out Clemson, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Despite not officially offering Darius Gray until January, LSU finds themselves firmly in the mix here to win this battle. This has become commonplace under Brian Kelly. He and his recruiting staff continue to find ways to join battles late and make the final teams list.

Unfortunately that doesn't always work, like in the case of the battle for quarterback Bowe Bentley earlier this year. However, it's good to see the Tigers rising up the ranks with recruits late when they can.

Gray is the number one overall rated interior offensive line recruit in the nation and the highest remaining uncommitted offensive line prospect of any kind in the country. Landing him could possibly push the LSU Tigers' recruiting class all the way up into the top five teams overall (according to both 247Sports and Rivals).

LSU doesn't have many truly elite recruiting targets left on their board where they look to be top options for the player. If Brian Kelly wants to put a stamp on this year's class as truly being one of the best in the nation, this could be his last chance.

Hopefully offensive line coach Brad Davis and Brian Kelly can lock this one in. If they can win Darius Gray, he'll join four stars Brysten Martinez, Emanuel Tucker, Bryson Cooley, and high three star Jalan Chapman, completing an absolutely stacked offensive line class this year.
