On Sunday morning, the college football world received the tragic news of Kyren Lacy's passing. The former LSU Tiger WR was going through a legal battle and took his life late Saturday night.
On Tuesday, Brian Kelly spoke to the media for the first time since his passing. He reflected on his time with Lacy and called him a bright star.
"Kyren was a bright star," said Kelly. "He had an incredible personality. I'll remember him as somebody that had a love for the game, a love for being a Tiger and was a guy that played with great emotion. When you think of Kyren, you're going to smile most of the time because of the way that he handled himself. He was a guy that was full of energy."
The media were supposed to meet with some of the players after Tuesday's practice, but Kelly filled in to give his guys some more time to recover from the news before they were asked questions about the situation. Everyone on the team had some sort of relationship with Lacy, so Kelly said they're all dealing with it differently and they leaning on their support staff to help them through this difficult time.
"Everybody on our team has, in some way, had a relationship in different levels with Kyren," Kelly said. "Everybody is going to deal with it differently, so first understanding that. There's not one way you're supposed to feel. We lean heavily on our professional counseling department. We brought them in, and having that resource here allows them to seek out that one-on-one conversation that some may need."
As the Tigers wrap up spring practice, they will have all the support they need to get through this hard time. There are multiple guys on the roster who pretty much everyday with Lacy for years. It's not an easy time for anybody, but the coaches and support staff will be there to help everyone through it.
