Ohio State has landed a punter for their 2024 recruiting class that doesn’t look like your average field flipper.
Nick McLarty is a 6-foot-7, 255-pound punter from Melbourne, Australia who announced his commitment on Friday morning. McLarty had been in attendance for the first two spring practices for the Buckeyes.
McLarty is now the only punter that Ohio State has on a scholarship for the 2024 football season. Jesse Mirco transferred to Vanderbilt, so McLarty is expected to battle for the job with fellow Australian punter Joe McGuire, who is a walk-on.
According to 247 Sports, McLarty had offers from Utah and Louisiana to punt the football.
The plan is for McLarty to arrive in May and join the program. With the commitment of the new punter, Ohio State will be bringing in a total of 23 freshmen for their 2024 freshman class. The Buckeyes now sit at 85 players on scholarship.
Something tells me at his size, he’s going to be a bit better of a tackler and more of a threat on a fake. It must be noted that the 6-foot-7, 255-pound punter can boom a ball just like you would think he can. You can check that out below.
