The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into the 2025 NFL Draft both ready to take the best available players while hoping to address some needs in the secondary. They checked both boxes through the first three days.
Jason Licht's team snagged star receiver Emeka Egbuka in the first round before adding two cornerbacks in Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish. When the draft ended late Saturday afternoon, the Bucs made headlines with another defensive backfield addition.
Tampa Bay has signed Shilo Sanders as an undrafted free agent, according to multiple sources. If that last name rings a bell, it should. Shilo is the son of Deion Sanders and the brother of polarizing quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders.
Many anticipated Shedeur to hear his name called on Day 1 of the draft with some initial projections tabbing him as high as the No. 2 overall pick. That was not the case for "Coach Prime's" golden prospect.
Shedeur's volatile draft stock made his exception from the first round a moderate surprise. But the slip into Day 3 and specifically the fifth round sparked viral speculation on social media.
Nonetheless, he ended up with the Cleveland Browns and will compete for a spot on the roster touting four other quarterbacks.
As for Shilo, he became a secondary character when his father took over at the University of Colorado and the Deion-Shedeur pairing took over college football. Add in unicorn prospect and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter to the mix and his star faded to the background in Colorado's secondary.
Outside the spotlight, Shilo experienced his share of ups and downs with the Buffaloes. Many forget his second team All-Pac 12 selection back in 2023.
Unfortunately, Sanders had three games of his final season taken away after suffering a broken forearm in the team's loss to Nebraska on September 7. He would still appear in 10 games, totaling 67 tackles, a sack and two fumble recoveries.
He may have not gotten the call during the draft, but Sanders will head to Tampa Bay as one of the biggest names in this Bucs' rookie class. Given, the pedigree of talent the Bucs added in the draft, he will have his work cut out for him to make an impression when offseason programs begin.
