Bulldogs land commitment from four-star, 355-pound offensive line recruit

SEC football is all about size and strength. That's something the Georgia Bulldogs know well. Head coach Kirby Smart has had stacked rosters featuring plenty of both on his past two championship teams.

That's a trend that appears to be continuing on the recruiting trail for UGA, especially considering the size the Bulldogs are getting out of their newest commitment.

Daniel Calhoun, a four-star offensive tackle out of Marietta, Georgia, committed to the Bulldogs on Wednesday. He is nearly 6-foot-7 and checks in at 355 pounds – already larger than most linemen in college football.

Calhoun is a rising senior, but Smart and the Bulldogs have had their eyes on him for quite some time. In fact, UGA offered him before he even stepped foot on a high school campus.

“It’s crazy because I was in eighth grade just working out at home and my coach called me to tell me that Georgia had offered,” Calhoun told On3. “Georgia’s been the top school for awhile. It’s right down the road and they always produce great offensive linemen.

“Their development is crazy. They send a ton of guys to the NFL every year and I also have a great relationship with the players and coaches. I get along with players like my brothers and the coaching staff has really connected with my family."

Considering that the relationship between UGA and Calhoun goes back so long, it is no wonder the four-star recruit feels tight with Smart and his staff. It was a connection that allowed Georgia to land Calhoun over the other powerhouses in his top five: Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Calhoun is the No. 6 offensive tackle in the 2024 class, as well as a Top-100 player nationally.
