BYU coach hypes up Zach Wilson as NFL franchise quarterback

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to be the first quarterback taken in the 2021 NFL Draft. After that, there's much uncertainty about who will be taken second.

Ohio State's Justin Fields could be drafted second overall by the New York Jets. However, BYU coach Kalani Sitake believes Zach Wilson should be selected before Fields. Sitake said, according to Steve Serby of the New York Post:

"On a football field, he's a guy that could easily be a coach right now. You want a guy to be highly competitive, but not a lot of people are willing to sacrifice and put in the time to prepare like he is. Imagine a player who loves the game of football and when I'm working late nights, he's here as well. And then when I'm watching film, he'll come in and watch film with the coaching staff and hang out. He lives for ball, that's what he does, and he's a great student of the game, and his work ethic's unbelievable, and his teammates love him."

Wilson had the best year of his collegiate career in 2020, completing 73.5% of his passes for 3,692 yards and 33 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also had 254 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The 21-year-old joins Lawrence, Fields, North Dakota St.'s Trey Lance and Alabama's Mac Jones as the top quarterbacks available in the 2021 draft.
