After finishing the 2024 season with an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl victory over Deion Sanders and Colorado, BYU cracked the College Football Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 poll on Monday.
The first time the Cougars will start the season as a ranked team since 2022. BYU was slotted at No. 23 as one of five Big 12 teams in the poll. With the season now less than a month away, Kalani Sitake and his staff will be tasked with naming a new starting quarterback after losing Jake Retzlaff.
The Cougars was one win away from appearing in the Big 12 championship game and ranked as high as No. 6 last season. But back-to-back losses to Kansas and Arizona State put an end to any CFB Playoff hopes.
BYU hopes for similar success in the 2025 season. One former Big 12 program was on top of the preseason poll for the first time in program history. The Texas Longhorns hold down the No. 1 spot going into the season. Here's the full Preseason College Football Coaches Top 25.
