On Saturday afternoon, Kalani Sitake and the BYU Cougars added a new quarterback through the transfer portal with the addition of Stanford’s Bear Bachmeier.
Bachmeier, a 6-foot-2 signal caller from Murrieta, California, committed to join Stanford this season, but after a few months with the program, he elected to enter his name into the transfer portal.
“Former Stanford QB Bear Bachmeier has committed to BYU,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported. “Bachmeier visited the last few days and committed on Saturday morning.”
Coming out of Murrieta Valley High School in the Class of 2025, Bachmeier was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 422nd-ranked player. He also checked in as the 28th-ranked player at his position and the 33rd-ranked player in the state of California.
“Bachmeier is an exciting dual-threat quarterback who can beat a defense with his arm or his legs,” 247Sports’ Greg Biggins wrote. “At 6-2, 225 pounds, he’s built like a tank and can take off and run for big yards and does a nice job escaping initial pressure and extending plays. He can also beat you from the pocket and is a very competent thrower. He has a strong arm, quick release, and can throw from different arm angles.”
“He’s comfortable throwing and rolling out to either direction, is a tough kid, and a fierce competitor,” Biggins continued. “He wants the ball late in games and has shown a clutch gene in his HS career in being able to rally his team late in games. He comes from an athletic family with both of his older brothers playing football at the Power 5 level, and we’ve always felt Bear has the highest upside in the family. Also plays basketball and baseball and is a high-end academic student off the field as well.”
With the commitment, BYU has added 10 incoming transfers this offseason, a group that is listed as the Big 12’s worst unit, according to 247Sports.
