BYU running back Pokaiaua Haunga has been dismissed from the program, according to reports.
The redshirt freshman rusher was no longer on the roster during the start of fall camp. BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick confirmed the news to he media, saying he would not be with the program this year.
Haunga's first collegiate year didn't yield much production. The former three-star recruit racked up 18 carries for 81 yards, including time in BYU's blowout win over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. BYU will now ride with LJ Martin and Sione Moa as the go-to opinion in the backfield. Both could be 1,000-yard rushers this year, if they stay healthy.
However, the question about depth behind them will come into play. The Cougars used multiple back last year and will need to find stability once again. Without Jake Retzlaff and in the midst of a three-way QB battle, the need for a balanced attack will be key for the offense.
BYU opens the 2025 season at home against Portland State (8 p.m. ET on ESPN+).
