Clemson quarterback, Cade Klubnik is entering his fourth season with the program, and loyalty means a lot to the 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback.
Klubnik mentioned Alabama’s Ty Simpson among the quarterbacks he has ‘so much respect for’ because of his loyalty during an interview with On3’s Peter Nakos. In the new era of the transfer portal, players like Klubnik and Simpson look to be trending towards extinction. However, Klubnik sees a quarterback’s loyalty as a strength.
“Guys like Arch [Manning], Garrett Nussmeier, Drew Allar and Ty Simpson…The guys that believe in the program and believe in the culture that they’re at…There’s a reason that those are four of the best quarterbacks in college football right now,” Klubnik said.
Loyalty in college sports took a hit when the transfer portal was created. The portal has its positives and negatives, but it is not as common for a highly talented athlete to spend their first few seasons as a backup and stay with the team until their number is called. Every player mentioned has spent time seeing the game through different lenses, but it is likely that each of these quarterbacks will be in command of their team’s offenses this year.
Allar and Simpson are in their fourth season at Penn State and Alabama, respectively. Nussmeier will be in his fifth season with LSU while Manning is in his third year with Texas. All five of these quarterbacks have solid skill players around them and offensive lines protecting them. It will not be shocking if one or more of these players are finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
