The Colorado Buffaloes recently backed up the Brink's truck for Deion Sanders. They'll count on Coach Prime more than ever this coming season, as he'll be without his sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders. Former NFL MVP and 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton believes that the eldest Sanders will be better off for it in Boulder.
Newton recently discussed Coach Prime's five-year, $54 million extension and how he sees him faring going forward. He made a bold prediction in the process.
"This is shocking because I didn't think he was gonna be here this year," Newton said last week on his weekly podcast, "4th&1 with Cam Newton." "But, I think the greatness of Deion Sanders as a coach will now come to fruition even more because he doesn't have any vested interest to hold back. ... I think they win a national championship without his sons there."
Coach Prime has gone 13-12 over his first two campaigns at the Buffaloes' helm. He guided Colorado to a 9-4 record and an Alamo Bowl appearance last season. Sanders' base salary climbs to $10 million this upcoming go-round, making him the highest-paid coach in the Big 12.
Newton isn't the only one to believe so much in the Buffaloes. Well-known actor Denzel Washington does, too. He visited the team last month and said, "I'm going to say this now, if y'all don't send me a ticket to the national championship when you get there, then don't ever go to none of my movies ever again. ... Because I know you (are) going to be there."
