Cardinals Read: Michael Bush Earns Spot in Highly Regarded 2023 ACC Honors Class

Former University of Louisville football player Michael Bush has been recognized for his accomplishments as a part of the 2023 ACC Honors Class, according to an announcement made by the league on Tuesday.

Bush, who was one of the top running backs in school history, led Louisville to three consecutive bowl appearances from 2003 to 2005. Unfortunately, his senior season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury during the first half of the season opener against Kentucky. Despite the setback, Bush left a lasting impact on the Louisville program.

Throughout his three-year career, Bush scored 39 touchdowns for the Cardinals, which is the third-highest total in program history. He also rushed for 2,508 yards, placing him in the top 10 of all-time rushing leaders at Louisville. Additionally, Bush recorded 41 total touchdowns, the fourth-most in program history.

In 2005, Bush had a remarkable season, setting records for rushing touchdowns (23) and total touchdowns (24) in a single season. He also claimed the single-season points record with 144, leading the entire NCAA that year. These achievements were instrumental in guiding the Cardinals to a spot in the Gator Bowl. Despite missing two games, Bush still managed to run for 1,143 yards and recorded six 100-yard rushing games in that campaign.

Following his successful collegiate career, Bush was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He went on to play for six seasons in the NFL, representing both the Raiders and the Chicago Bears from 2008 to 2013. Throughout his professional career, Bush amassed 3,250 rushing yards, 1,010 receiving yards, and scored a total of 31 touchdowns.

Bush’s inclusion in the 2023 ACC Honors Class is a testament to his outstanding performances on the field and his significant contributions to the University of Louisville football program. His achievements will forever be remembered and celebrated in the annals of Louisville football history.
