After spending four seasons with Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs, quarterback Carson Beck decided to take his talents to the Miami Hurricanes in January.
Beck was the Bulldogs' starter for two seasons, leading them to a 24-3 record, including two SEC championship appearances and a 63-3 triumph over the Florida State Seminoles in the 2024 Capital One Orange Bowl.
Beck passed for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on a 64.7% completion percentage as a senior. However, he could not help Georgia win a national championship like his predecessor, Stetson Bennett, had done twice.
Now in his final season of eligibility after redshirting in his freshman year, Beck joined Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes to bring them to the school's first national championship game since the 2002 season. He signed a $4 million name, image and likeness (NIL) deal to become the program’s starter and is confident he made the right decision.
“The biggest thing for me, obviously was the offensive fit, and as a quarterback, the OC [offensive coordinator], the scheme and talent and guys that you are going to have around you is huge to the success and ultimately the future,” Beck told reporters during an interview at the ACC Media Days on Tuesday.
“This is my future. And this is one of the better decisions I’ve made.”
Beck also received support from his mother as he heads into his final season with a new school. “So proud of who you are and what you stand for ❤️,” Tracy Beck commented on an Instagram post of her son.
The Hurricanes' offense is composed of wide receivers Ray-Ray Joseph, Shemar Kirk, Kolby Luna, Andrew Cohen, Chance Thomas and Nick Robinson. The plethora of targets might help Beck put together another season in which he ends up in the running for the Heisman Trophy.
“Since I’ve been here since January, I’ve been developing relationships and chemistry with the wide receivers, running backs, tight ends and offensive line,” he added. “It’s just reinforced my decision positively.”
