Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns had a strong 2025 recruiting class. According to 247Sports, they had the No. 1-ranked class in the nation. They appear to be off to a strong start again in 2026. They already have commitments from 15 players, including two five-star recruits and eight four-star recruits.
On Wednesday, college football insider Steve Wiltfong made a prediction for 2026 four-star linebacker recruit Kosi Okpala. He projected him to commit to the Longhorns. In his prediction, he noted that his confidence level was at 60% for this pick.
Texas fans will not need to wait long to find out if Steve Wiltfong is correct. Kosi Okpala is scheduled to announce his official commitment on July 3. He is the No. 281-ranked player in the nation, according to 247Sports, and the No. 35-ranked player in Texas.
If Okpala joins Steve Sarkisian's squad, he will be joining an already strong recruiting class. Texas' 2026 class is led by quarterback Dia Bell and athlete Jermaine Bishop. Both are five-star recruits and rank within the top 25 in their class.
It is difficult to assess what kind of position the Longhorns will be in when Okpala arrives in 2026. Heading into 2025, Arch Manning is set to take over as the QB. However, if he performs well, he could declare for the 2026 NFL draft. That could leave the door open for Dia Bell to start as a true freshman, which would mean Okpala could be joining an inexperienced squad.
