It took a few years to get here, but all of a sudden, the defending ACC Champion is fully loaded with an offense that should be among the most effective in America. It might not lead the ACC - others are going to bomb away and crank up more stats - but it’ll be far more controlled.
Clemson won’t need to put up a gajillion yards and points, but it can, and will.
The Tigers were No. 1 in the ACC and 11th in the nation in fewest turnovers. They weren’t awful on third downs, but they should be even better, and they should be even more explosive.

Clemson Defense Breakdown
Season Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season
- The skill guys get all of the love and attention, but if Clemson is going to have an expected huge season offensively, it starts with the line loaded with All-ACC-caliber talents.
Four of the five starters are back, with tackle Blake Miller and guard Walker Parks the stars of the show. It would be nice to do a bit more for the ground game, and this five needs to be better to keep defenses out of the backfield, but this will be as rock-solid as any line in the ACC.
- Cade Klubnik figured it out. The one-time superstar quarterback recruit might not be Trevor Lawrence as a sure-thing NFL prospect, but he’s getting close.
He did more down the field last year, made quicker decisions, and generally played like a guy who had enough live reps for everything to slow down.
He threw 36 touchdown passes with just six picks, ran for 463 yards and seven scores, and now he’s firmly entrenched as the team’s main man, with Christopher Vizzina back as the No. 2 man. And best of all …
- This is one of Clemson’s best receiving corps in years. Star tight end Jake Briningstool should shine with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the wideouts are back. Antonio Williams is a next-level playmaker, leading the team with 75 catches with 11 scores last season.
TJ Moore is a big-play guy on the outside who caught 45 passes, and Bryant Wesco averaged over 17 yards per catch on his 41 grabs. Also in the mix is Tristan Smith (Southeast Missouri State) after catching 76 passes with six scores.
Olsen Patt-Henry will take over the tight end workload from Briningstool, catching nine passes for 121 yards and three scores as the understudy.
- Everything is loaded on the Clemson attack, with running back the exception, at least in terms of experience. Phil Mafah is done after a wonderful year, and next-man-up Jay Haynes is coming off a knee injury.
The spotlight is on true freshman Gideon Davis, an ultra-quick back who might not bring a ton of thump, but he can move. 210-pound redshirt freshman David Eziomume got in a little work last year, averaging over six yards per carry on his ten runs.
