Clinton Portis' son commits to Miami

Clinton Portis was a terrific NFL running back, but before that, he was an absolute star for the Miami Hurricanes as a college back from 1999 to 2001.

Now, over 20 years later, his son will be following in his footsteps. He's not a running back, but Camdin Portis is a highly ranked cornerback out of Charlotte, N.C.

On Sunday, he committed to Miami, choosing his father's alma mater over Auburn, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.

This is one of those that just made sense for both parties.

"I watched Miami growing up and always wanted to go to Miami," Portis told On3. "It is a beautiful place and a great school with a lot of tradition. Miami has had a lot of great players play there and it is on its way back up."

Portis knows a bit about what Miami can be at its peak. His father won the 2001 National Championship at Miami in a season that saw him rush for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The younger Portis believes head coach Mario Cristobal has the Hurricanes trending in a championship direction once again.

"The program hasn’t been where it wants to be for a while, but coach Cristobal is getting some players in and he is getting it back up there," Portis said. "It is different now than what is was before coach Cristobal got there."

According to 247Sports, Portis is the No. 18 cornerback in the 2026 class. He's Miami's third 2026 commitment, joining four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell and four-star quarterback Doreon Coleman.

"Who doesn’t want to play for Miami?" Portis finished. "It is in south Florida, there is history, there is a lot to do there and they are starting to build those rooms with players."

He's certainly all in.
