The Texas Longhorns come into the 2025 college football season as the top team in the country in the first Associated Press poll.
They have sky-high expectations for the 2025 season after getting to the College Football Playoff semifinals last year, and will open the season in Columbus against the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30. It's a rematch of last season's Cotton Bowl, which Ohio State won by a 14-point margin, 28-14.
Some college football media pundits have called Texas the "new Alabama" for this season, but FS1's Colin Cowherd is pushing back on that in a big way.
"So, Georgia was the new Alabama for about four years until the NIL took off, where SEC, tough, physical, defensive head coach, multiple natties (national championships), Georgia was the new Alabama. Texas, my entire life has been USC in cowboy hats," Cowherd said on The Herd. "Good looking, a lot of style, a lot of vibe, a lot of energy, coach always makes a lot of money, cool stadium, cool city. Where are all the natties?"
Texas will try to prove Cowherd wrong this season since the program has a lot of talent coming back. Arch Manning is also set to be the new full-time starting quarterback after sitting behind Quinn Ewers for the previous two seasons.
College GameDay will be in the house for the Texas-Ohio State matchup on August 30, and it will get underway at Noon ET on FOX.
