College Football: Games To Watch In Week 3
Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images

Hold onto your helmets, folks, because college football’s Week 3 is shaping up to be an absolute barnburner. Last week, we saw the Florida Gators get absolutely destroyed by South Florida in a game that had bookies weeping and USF fans wondering if they’d slipped into an alternate dimension. Now, the Gators have to lick their wounds and march into “Death Valley” to face a snarling LSU squad. It’s like getting over a bad burrito by eating ghost peppers. Good luck with that.

This weekend is packed with more drama than a reality TV show finale. We’ve got redemption arcs, bitter rivalries, and enough tension to power a small city. Let’s dive into the matchups this week in college football that are going to have you glued to your couch, screaming at the TV, and questioning all your life choices.

Upset Alerts and Redemption Songs In College Football

Sometimes, a team just needs to prove they’re not a fluke. Other times, they need to wash the taste of a truly embarrassing loss out of their mouths. This week is a little bit of both.

No. 18 South Florida at No. 5 Miami (FL)

The Vibe: South Florida is riding high after stunning the Gators. They’re feeling themselves, and why shouldn’t they? They pulled off one of the biggest shockers of the young season, but now they swagger into the backyard of the No. 5 team in the country.

Miami, on the other hand, has been clinically dismantling opponents. The spread is a whopping 17.5 points in Miami’s favor, which feels like Vegas is practically daring the Bulls to do it again. Can USF’s Cinderella story continue, or will the Hurricanes be the midnight a-comin’? This has “trap game” written all over it, but Miami’s defense, led by the human wrecking ball Rueben Bain Jr., might just be the bouncer that throws USF out of the club.

Florida at No. 3 LSU

The Vibe: Oh, the humanity. After that soul-crushing loss to USF, the Gators have to travel to Baton Rouge for a night game. That’s not a recipe for success; it’s a recipe for disaster with a side of despair. LSU is looking every bit the national title contender, having started their season with two convincing wins.

The Bayou Bengals are 9.5-point favorites, and frankly, that feels generous to Florida. Head Coach Billy Napier needs a miracle to save face, but Death Valley at night is where miracles go to die. This one could get ugly, folks. Prepare for some sad Gator memes.

Old Feuds and New Blood In College Football

Rivalries are the lifeblood of college football. This weekend features some classics, where one team is desperate to break a long, painful losing streak.

No. 6 Georgia at No. 15 Tennessee

The Vibe: Tennessee hasn’t beaten Georgia since the Paleozoic Era. Okay, it’s only been eight games, but in college football years, that’s an eternity. The Bulldogs come into this one looking a little… sluggish? They beat Austin Peay, but it wasn’t exactly a dominant performance. Now they head to Neyland Stadium, where Josh Heupel’s Vols are 26-4.

This is Tennessee’s best shot in years to finally get the Georgia monkey off its back. The Dawgs are favored by just 3.5 points. I smell an upset brewing in Knoxville. The air will be thick with checkerboard overalls and hope.

No. 12 Clemson at Georgia Tech

The Vibe: Another eight-game losing streak! Georgia Tech is sick and tired of being Clemson’s doormat. Dabo Swinney’s Tigers looked shaky against Troy last week, not taking the lead until the second half. That’s not the Clemson we’re used to seeing. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech is a pesky, turnover-prone team that just might have the tools to pull off a shocker, especially at home. If the Yellow Jackets can just hold onto the football, this could be the weekend they finally sting the Tigers.

A Do-or-Die Showdown In South Bend

Some college football games are more than just a game; they’re a season-defining moment.

No. 16 Texas A&M at No. 8 Notre Dame

The Vibe: Notre Dame is already staring down the barrel of a 0-2 start, which would effectively pop their playoff dreams before the leaves even start to change. After a tough loss to Miami in Week 1 and a bye week to stew on it, the pressure is immense.

Marcus Freeman’s Irish have a habit of losing early and then bouncing back, but they’re facing an Aggies team that has looked dominant, winning both their games by a country mile. The Irish are favored by 7, but this is a must-win game in every sense of the word. If Notre Dame loses this, their season goes from “championship aspirations” to “let’s just try to make a decent bowl game.“ It’s gut-check time in South Bend.
