College Football in Utah – Week 11

BYU blunders into an awful loss on the road, but Southern Utah and Utah State bring wins home to the Beehive State.

BYU 8-1 (5-1 in the Big 12)

That was the ugliest loss BYU’s endured in almost two whole years. They haven’t had one that bad since their first year in the Big 12 in 2023. A 29-7 loss is a bitter pill to swallow, but the silver lining is there for BYU. Despite their loss, all of their goals, hopes, and dreams are still there for them to achieve. Every game is a must win from here on out and that starts with TCU this Saturday.

Utah 7-2 (4-2 in the Big 12)

The Utes were off this week after their big win last week. They have a manageable remaining schedule with Baylor, Kansas State, and Kansas. This week they’re at Baylor. The Bears have a potent offense that will test the Utes, but Utah should win with Devon Dampier and get to 8-2.

Utah State 5-4 (3-2 in the Mountain West)

The Aggies got back in the win column with an explosive performance against Nevada. Utah State won at home in Logan, 51-14. Receiver Brady Boyd led the way for USU, he had five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Utah State has a tough remaining schedule against three bowl eligible teams. They play at UNLV, at Fresno State, and host defending Mountain West Champions Boise State in the season finale.

Weber State 3-7 (1-5 in the Big Sky)

The Wildcats couldn’t get out of Bozeman fast enough. Montana State slaughtered them, 66-14. Weber State only has two games remaining before they start looking to the 2026 season. They are near the bottom of the basement of the Big Sky Conference alongside 1-9 Portland State. They travel to Pocatello to play Idaho State this week before ending the year at home against Northern Arizona.

Utah Tech 2-8 (1-5 in the United Athletic Conference)

Utah Tech couldn’t make it two wins in a row. They lost on the road at Abilene Christian, 31-10. The Trailblazers were shutout in the second half and couldn’t get their offense going without turning the ball over. They were held to only 252 yards of total offense and threw four interceptions. They’re now last place in the UAC. They’ll stay on the road and play at West Georgia this week.

Southern Utah 5-5 (4-2 in the United Athletic Conference)

The Thunderbirds’ turnaround is an underrated story of college football this year. After starting 1-5 and losing four straight to ranked teams, SUU got things turned around with an upset win over Abilene Christian. Their 27-17 win over Eastern Kentucky was their fourth straight win. They’re now 5-5, 4-2 in the UAC. Their now in third place in the conference standings with two games to go and are on fire. No one wants to face the Thunderbirds and their all-American running back Josh Dye.

With Central Arkansas and North Alabama next, the Thunderbirds will continue to let Josh Dye carry them. And why not? Dye will likely be playing at the FBS level next season. This season, he has 233 carries (2nd most in the FCS), for 1,543 yards (2nd), and 22 rushing touchdowns (1st). Dye could be the FCS Player of the Year before 2025 is finished.

Steve Young Award Player of the Week

With Utah on a bye, and BYU, Weber State, and Utah Tech all struggling, there were only players from Utah State and Southern Utah to consider this week. Josh Dye ran away with it again the way he ran through the Eastern Kentucky defense. Dye would finish the 27-17 win with 33 carries for 221 yards and three touchdowns.
