Former USC five-star wide receiver Zachariah Branch was one of the more sought-after players in the NCAA transfer portal.
He ranked third on the Trojans this season in receiving, hauling in 47 catches, 502 yards and one touchdown, and he totaled 78 receptions, 823 yards and three scores in two seasons in Southern California.
Branch was the No. 1-ranked wide receiver and the No. 5 overall recruit in the class of 2023. He was one of three five-star players to commit to USC that year, and he was the highest-rated player in the Trojans’ recruiting class.
But given the uncertainty surrounding the USC program following a 7-6 finish that included disappointing one-score losses to Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota, Maryland, Washington and Notre Dame, Branch, who’s the No. 3 overall player in On3’s transfer portal rankings, and his brother Zion, a four-star safety, entered the portal to find a new as a packaged deal.
And that’s exactly what they did.
The Branch brothers revealed on Sunday that they both committed to the Georgia Bulldogs just days after their College Football Playoff quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame.
Landing a player the caliber of Zachariah is a huge coup for Georgia, which is losing its top two receivers — Arian Smith (48 receptions, 817 yards, four TDs) and Dominic Lovett (59 receptions, 607 yards, six TDs) — to graduation.
The Bulldogs will now have a solid 1-2 punch at WR with Zachariah and junior Dillon Bell, who finished with 43 catches, 466 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Zion is also a big get for UGA. The Bulldogs are set to lose star defensive back Malaki Starks (77 tackles, three passes defensed, one interception) to the NFL draft and starting DB Dan Jackson (64 tackles, three passes defensed, two interceptions) to graduation, and he will likely plug right into the secondary next season.
