In today's college football landscape, finding a top quarterback prospect is as difficult as ever. In addition to requiring a big chunk of NIL money, players likely want some assurance of an opportunity at playing time and the depth chart to match.
For the LSU Tigers, they've had trouble earning and retaining their quarterback commitments. The SEC powerhouse failed to land a marquee field general as part of its 2025 cycle. Michael Van Buren Jr., a transfer from Mississippi State, committed to LSU from the transfer portal.
However, the Tigers have yet to recover at the quarterback position from the decommitment of Bryce Underwood, the consensus top player of the 2025 class, who would go on to join the Michigan Wolverines.

LSU recently sent out a new offer to four-star quarterback Bryson Beaver. Since decommitting from Boise State on June 12, the 6-foot-2 1/2, 200-pound quarterback has seen an uptick in interest.
Oregon, Alabama, Ole Miss and Colorado have all sent offers to Beaver over the past two weeks.
A native of Murrieta, California, Bryson was an Elite 11 finalist and finished the 2024 season with 3,214 passing yards, 33 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Described as a "confident passer with surprising escape powers that’s willing to challenge both man and zone coverage at all three levels" by 247Sports' Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins, Beaver is predicted to be leaning to Oregon.
Beaver shared a thankful message to LSU's staff on his X account after receiving an offer from the SEC standout.
"Grateful to say @LSUfootball offered! Appreciate @CoachBrianKelly and @CoachJoeSloan believing in me," read Beaver's post. "Looking forward to learning more about what makes LSU such a great place. GEAUX TIGERS!"
LSU's 2026 recruiting class is rated 13th by 247Sports and is highlighted by five-star receiver Tristen Keys, who is ranked the No. 4 player in the country, out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
