Can the fortunes of a college football program be overhauled with a strong result during a 48-hour window via the transfer portal? Perhaps not, but the South Alabama Jaguars reeled in seven incoming transfers over the past 48 hours,  per On3Sports.

In fact, the Sun Belt Conference team has had 10 commitments since January 1. By comparison, Southern Miss leads 247Sports' Sun Belt portal rankings and has 33 commitments.

The Jaguars have added IOL Amaury Wiggins (Arkansas), CB Jayvon Henderson (East Tennessee State), IOL Leavy Johnson (Western Kentucky), LB Caleb Dozier (Georgia Tech), S Anthony Brown (Purdue), TE Miller McCrumby (Arkansas State), S Tywon Wray (Oklahoma State), IOL Ni Mansell (South Carolina), LB Trey Henry (Southern Miss) and CB Dallas Young (Arkansas).

Mansell is South Alabama's highest-rated incoming transfer. The former Gamecocks lineman missed all of the 2023 season due to injury.

The Jaguars' most significant transfer portal loss was running back Fluff Bothwell. The freshman All-American ran for 832 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2024. He committed to Mississippi State on December 24.

The 2024 season marked Major Applewhite's first season as USA's head coach. A former quarterback with the Texas Longhorns from 1998 to 2001, he was also the Houston Cougars head coach from 2016 to 2018.

South Alabama finished this season with a 7-6 record and ended the season with a 30-23 win in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl. The 2024 season is their third straight with a winning record since not having a winning record since 2011.
