Even though the top games were offensive duds for long periods of time, there was plenty of drama and a whole lot to have fun with.
No, the Ohio State win over Texas wasn't always pretty, and LSU took over Clemson and the defense shut things down late, but both were interesting until the end.
And, of course, Florida State pulled off the stunner that changed everything.
Utah and USC are who we thought they were, but some teams will be on notice. It was only Week 1, though. There isn't a massive overreaction quite yet.

It was actually a better performance than the final score. The defense gave up two long scoring runs, one right away and one late. Don't get into a twist over a final score that wasn't a total annihilation.

It's exactly what the Illini needed to open the season. Going to Duke will be far tougher than it seems.

If the Gamecocks obliterate Virginia Tech, this will move up. If they lose ... (they'll almost certainly pull this off.)

Everyone will notice the final score, but that didn't do the performance justice. The offense was fantastic.

Okay, here we go. Beating Kansas State was nice, and rolling through South Dakota was fun, but beat Iowa and the season really gets going.

It was an exhibition, but over 600 yards of total offense for the game, and close to 50 points in the first half, was what everyone came to see.

John Mateer looked like everything Sooner fans were hoping for, but the ground game didn't do much. It seemed like the team was holding back, like it didn't want to show Michigan anything.

It was a little ragged, but that's what Week 1 is for. There wasn't any real drama, and the offense looked fine. Now the defense could use a big day against Utah State.

That's why you have an LIU to start the season. It was a tune-up to get everything right - far more fun than the blowout loss to Miami last year.

There's some tuning up to do, but it wasn't a horrible performance. Bryce Underwood was okay in his first time under center.

It's amazing how Alabama looked so ordinary. There was no energy, no momentum, and no execution. This will get better ... or else.

Was that just a one-hit wonder performance with the program blowing off a ton of steam after last year? It doesn't seem like it - the super-fast Seminoles made Alabama look like it was running in mud.
