The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers came under fire for their performance in a 27-17 loss to Notre Dame on Friday night in round one of the College Football Playoff.

The Hoosiers' showing against Notre Dame looked close compared to No. 11 SMU's first half against No. 6 Penn State at Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley on Saturday.

Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings had a forgettable first 30 minutes, throwing three interceptions to the Penn State defense. Two of the three interceptions resulted in a pick-six, giving the Nittany Lions their first 14 points.

Penn State would score an offensive touchdown nine plays after Jennings' third interception of the day in the second quarter. PSU's fourth touchdown came after an SMU turnover on downs.

Penn State led in total yards 216-129 at halftime.

Many college football fans had reservations about SMU belonging in the CFP, with some thinking Alabama, South Carolina or Ole Miss deserved a spot over the Mustangs after they lost the ACC Championship Game to Clemson.

Following SMU's performance in the first half, fans called the Mustangs "frauds" on social media.

"Anyone who watched the first half of Clemson vs SMU is not surprised by this. SMU sucks and is a total fraud who beat NO ONE this year and lost to the only ranked teams they played," wrote a fan.

"SMU AND INDIANA… FRAUDS," posted another.

"SMU is literally the poster-child for everything that’s ever been wrong with college football. No fanbase. Nothing but a pedigree built on oil money and cheating. Pay to play ACC team with no tradition other than deep pockets and fraud," commented one fan.

"SMU HAS RUINED THE CFP FOREVER! SMU ARE FRAUDS AND NOW THE CFP WILL ONLY BE AN ANNUAL SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME," wrote a fan.

"Because of SMU and Indiana, no team is ever getting in over a 3 loss Bama again. Committee is definitely going to use this as an example. If your team ever gets screwed, blame the frauds from this year," posted another.
