College Football World Reacts to Urban Meyer-Ohio State Coaching Rumors
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Ohio State Buckeyes capped off the 2024 regular season as the No. 6 team in the college football rankings, following a Week 14 loss to the Michigan Wolverines.

While Ohio State had a successful season, going 10-2 with a 7-2 record in Big Ten conference play, many believe head coach Ryan Day is on the hot seat

Day has been a quality coach for the Buckeyes since he took over the program for his first full season in 2019. Since being named head coach at Ohio State, Day is 1-4 against the Wolverines and 44-1 against other schools in the Big Ten.

However, while he's proven he can compete against some of the top schools in the nation, the No. 1 goal for the Buckeyes will always be: defeat the team up North.

Given his struggles against the Wolverines, there have been rumors that former head coach Urban Meyer could be back in the driver's seat at Ohio State.

According to Andrew Holleran at The Spun, an Ohio native Jay Crawford, has revealed that Meyer is open to another stint with the Buckeyes.

"Urban never wanted to leave Ohio State," Crawford said. "His hand was forced because the administration at the time, did not like how powerful Urban had become at the university. And so there was a real power struggle... Note that the two main players that forced Urban out - and that's what it was - are gone."

Meyer served as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018.

During his time with the Buckeyes, Ohio State had a 7-0 record against the Michigan Wolverines. He also led the program to the 2014 national title as the No. 1 team in the nation with a 14-1 record.

While Meyer is currently a Fox Sports analyst, covering college football for "Big Noon Kickoff," there seems to be some smoke surrounding a potential coaching return.

He has yet to comment on these rumors, but there are certainly questions to be asked within the Ohio State program if they're not able to make a serious run at the national title in the 2024 College Football Playoff.
